PURPOSE
The Cairo Heritage Foundation’s primary mission is to cultivate honor, pride and togetherness in social spirit by providing the opportunity for every community member to be involved in the civic and economic growth of our community.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Our programs include civic events and community development activities, such as:
Parades - Currently we co-organize with our community partner ArrowLeaf a fall parade that is part of our annual Blues and Gospel Festival and a Christmas evening parade where we provide music and free food/drink.
Activities for our young people - We work with partner ArrowLeaf to provide structured activities for children during the annual Blues and Gospel Festival. We also support Harold Jones (Fine Arts Center), another local non-profit that provides music and arts activities for young people in the community.
Beautification of our city - We have built and continue to maintain/develop a stage area on our riverfront where we host several community activities, including the annual Blues and Gospel Music Festival (not in it, the Christmas post parade celebration, and other community celebrations. We also maintain and seasonally decorate the adjacent lots/common areas.
Community development - We present an annual Blues & Gospel Festival, now in its 11th year, that provides a high-quality musical experience to bring both local and surrounding communities together. This free festival also provides an economic opportunity for area vendors, as well as community resource sharing and youth activities.
